AFTER THE ARMY
- Joining the Australian Army as a apprentice musician In January of 1963 After graduating for the school of music situated at Belcome in Victoria, I served in various bands and locations throughout Australia and overseas including one year and 10 days in Vietnam, from April 1966 until April 1967. After 8 years in the regular Army, I left the armed services.
- I moved back to Albany and started work at the Albany woollen Mills as the production Manager.
- Not long after my return I became involved with a local district Football and became General Manager for the Railways Football club. I Worked on Local radio hosting a local football show every Sunday morning for over 4 years.
- In 1974 I was appointed as Commanding Officer of TS Vancouver a naval Cadet Training Ship. I resigned my commission in 1976 due the pressure of my band commitments.
- At the same time regrettably I had to surrender my post as general manager of the football club and the radio show when I joined the Entertainers a local Band.
- In 1974 Jack Cranage, Peter Rasmussen, Colin France and myself joined forces to form “The Entertainers” Band. The band quickly grew in popularity so much so that by the end of 1975 we had bookings to take us through every week until 1980, it comprised of at least 2 and sometime 3 nights per week. Considering we were only part time entertainers this meant no weekends off. In 1976 we cut our first album (vinyl) recorded at the Wil Upson studios in Perth WA.
Take A Trip Back
Hello Ivan, I recently came across our album “The Entertainers Take A Trip Back” on your performing artist museum page. I thought you may be interested in some further particulars as to its origins
The album was recorded at the will Upton studios in Hay street West Perth in 1974. The band had been together since 1968. The producers was in fact Will Upton’s brother David.
There are two original song on the album “Take a Trip Back” written for the “Albany Sesquicentennial” celebrations, the other is Country Band Blue which I wrote in 1969.
Due to work commitments elsewhere the band ceased as the Entertainers 1n 1980.
Several members to the best are still alive being Jack Carnage, Colin France and myself. Peter Rasmussen passed in 1984.
There were only 250 copies of the album made they were all sold within six months.
- I continued to work for various media outlets until in 1992 when I proposed an idea to help small survive recessions to both the WA & Qld Governments. The idea was to help small business better plan for such contingency’s as recession financial planning and more fully understand the government red tape, what measures could be taken recession and what assistance was available to them when these problems occurred. Generally how to make their businesses grow and become more successful. The idea being in this way it would create more jobs produce better productivity and boost the economy. Thus the small business advisor Magazine was born
- In 1980 I was asked to head the Val Morgan Sales team in WA to sell screen advertisements into cinemas. I left 2 years later and Joined Leisure Holdings a property development group as the WA country Sales manager. In 1984 I was approached by the Resorts Group another property development organization to become its group General Manager.
- This position bought me in contact with such people as Laurie Connell and Alan Jones from Rothwell Bank, an Investment banker which our organization frequently dealt with and the Bond Corporation and of course Alan Bond.
